Earlier in May 2024, we gathered a team of dentists and volunteers to bring basic dental care to the stateless community in Kampung Mangkalinau in Sandakan, Sabah. In a small village classroom, the team was able to serve over 200 people in the span of three days.
The dental clinic was packed daily with people coming from nearby villages just to find relief of their toothaches. Ranging from as young as 6 years old to 65 years old, the condition of their teeth was not great. Many have rotten teeth. The dentists performed over 550 extractions by the end of the trip.
Additionally, nearly 150 tooth fillings were done. We are thankful for the opportunity to be able to serve this community despite the limitations set on them by their identification status. We hope to continue pioneering trips like these as we believe health matters to everyone, everywhere.
